From the beginning of my sled dog advocacy - waaaay back in 2011 - I financed all of my work on this project out of pocket. I never liked asking for money - and to be honest, I still don't. But that model is no longer tenable. Besides what I've spent on travel and gas, I've spent thousands of hours photographing the dogs for this body of work in all settings - kennels, foster homes, homes and vet offices. I've organized reunions and gatherings, followed them along beaches and trails. I created and self-published a 300-page book and donated 100% of the proceeds (over $2500) to the Victoria Humane Society to help offset veterinary costs related to the sled dogs they were bringing into care.
I have projects in the wings and ideas to grow this advocacy work, but I can no longer fund it all myself. So now, I'm making it possible to make a contribution to help further this important work.
Sled dogs are an overlooked group of dogs in the advocacy world and they need voices to speak up for them. I'm in it for the long haul.
