kirika

photographed: march 24. 2018
Name: Kirika
Age: 6 years old on April 12th, female
Weight: 70-75 lbs
Breed/Mix: husky/border collie
Sled dog name: Cola
Age at adoption: 3 years old
Adopted from: Victoria Humane Society, March 2015
Coat - single/double: double coat
Likes: running zoomies around the yard, chasing a ball, catching food in her mouth
Dislikes: any of our cats getting too close, like in her face; she doesn’t like being in the house during the day
Sleeping locations: during the day, outside in the backyard; at night, on his dog bed or my bed
Off-leash time: yes
Escaped or lost?: she is very good at off leash - only time she escaped was with Weasley but she came back quickly on her own
Siblings: unknown
Medical conditions: no
Spayed/Neutered at adoption: yes
Known history: she wasn’t very interested in pulling a sled - she apparently started at a kennel in Golden, the ended up in the Whistler area
Anything else you'd like to add: Kirika is also a very loving dog. She is great off leash, I never have to worry about her escaping. She can be at a house with no fenced yard and she will stay close.
She was raised in Golden in a household and was fairly trained when I got her. She can shake paw, catch treats in her mouth. I was told that she was a good bear dog - she could drive bears off the property.

Session notes:
Kirika (KEER-eh-ka) - I've been saying it wrong for years, so this is a way of helping me remember it correctly!
I think Kirika looks more like a teddy bear than a sled dog. Her thick coat and eyes the colour of those sew-on teddy bear eyes...
She was a bit confused by what was going on during the session, but she wasn't fearful at all - she just wanted the treats and then to get back outside to run around with her brother Weasley. The two of them make up a pretty fluffy team!
Kirika was photographed on location at: A Candyland Gathering!

Kirika passed away in March 2022.
